Alexandrians: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Thank you to all who submitted tips on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Click here to read more about how Alexandrians reduce, reuse and recycle to help make Alexandria a more earth-friendly city. Remember: the three R's, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle are important to the sustainability of Alexandria and necessary components of any environmentally friendly city. The benefits include:
- Protecting and expanding U.S. manufacturing jobs and increases U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace.
- Reduces the need for landfilling and incineration.
- Saving energy and preventing pollution caused by the extraction and processing of virgin materials and the manufacture of products using virgin materials.
- Decreasing emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change.
- Conserving natural resources such as timber, water, and minerals.
- Helping sustain the environment for future generations.

Each year, the City of Alexandria celebrates America Recycles Day on November 15. Alexandria has participated in this event since its inception in 1997.
